The McCarthy name has been well known in the Jupiter / Tequesta area since 1975 when John and Marilyn McCarthy opened the Wayside Inn (the old Sondy’s Restaurant) on US One. It was a family business, with son Brendon, daughter Kathleen, and Marilyn’s brother Bill all working to make the restaurant a success.
In 1983, McCarthy’s took over a former restaurant in the Lighthouse Plaza on Tequesta Drive and named it Fireside Inn. In 1986, with Marilyn’s brother Bob, a second Fireside Inn was opened in The Bluffs. The Bluffs location was sold in 1988 and the Fireside Inn became the infamous McCarthy’s. The restaurant built up a huge following and in 1995 the McCarthy family built McCarthy’s Pub on Tequesta Drive. The McCarthy family, including Brendon, delighted diners until 2005, when John, Marilyn and Brendon decided to retire and sell the business.
In 2015, Brendon McCarthy was eager to open a new McCarthy’s Pub in County Line Plaza in Tequesta. The response was overwhelming from both customers and staff. The story continues...
